A VETERAN IS RETIRING

COC Watch found out last week that veteran office worker Anita is retiring at the end of December 2009.

This comes as a stunning blow because Anita has been there for 30 plus years, working in the trenches day in and day out and knows that office inside and out. If anyone has experience in that office it is Anita and not Barb Johnson.

Anita is the supervisor in the Court Dept of the Clerk’s office, but according to a former employee, she must be in title only with absolutely no decision making power what so ever.

Apparently, Johnson has known about Anita’s pending retirement since September. Will she hire someone to take her place soon enough for Anita to train this new person, or will she wait until 6 months, a year, or longer to hire a replacement? Since it has been over 5 months since Title Office Supervisor Sandra Brown abruptly quit and Johnson has not yet replaced Sandra, we here at COC Watch are wagering that it will be AT LEAST 1 YEAR before Johnson replaces Anita.

Perhaps by then the County Commissioners will tell her that she can not hire any replacements because it took her so long to ask for the hiring, so it’s obvious that she doesn’t need that extra worker in the office. This in turn will just add MORE STRESS to the already overworked and overstressed office staff to try and pick up the pieces! ! But do you think that Johnson will get “in the trenches” and help her workers out? HELL NO! ! She is known for her creating havoc and chaos, then leaving the office for her staff to fend for themselves.

Speaking of Sandra Brown’s replacement, COC Watch has received information from an anonymous source that Barb does have resumes from people who have applied for that position. The question we have is, why would Johnson hire someone off the street who doesn’t know the job to be the supervisor of the Title Department? According to our source, there is an employee in the title office now named Peggy who knows that office and how it should be run. Why doesn’t Johnson make Peggy the new supervisor? Why hire someone off the street who doesn’t know how the Title Office works, or operates to be the supervisor?

(Sigh)….It’s just another example of Johnson’s incompetence as Erie County’s Clerk of Courts.

Well we at COC Watch wish Anita a happy retirement; Lord knows she has more than earned it working in those conditions.

Just when you think, “It can’t POSSIBLY get any worse! !” Then it does!

Too bad, and so sad; especially since OUR tax money is paying her to do “NOTHING” about everything.

To you the voter I ask: Does this look like she is doing the job that she was elected by YOU THE VOTERS AND TAX PAYERS of Erie County to do?

  1. I bet both Sandra Brown and Anita are happy, happy people having made the decision to leave Barb Johnson's Clerk of Court operation. So sad for the public who use the COC's services. I can only speculate, no anticipate that services and compliance with laws will only go from super bad to the super worst operation in the entire State of Ohio.

  2. I wish Anita a happy retirement! She certainly has more than earned it. She is certainly a trooper for sticking it out as long as she did. I guess enough is enough and and she thought it was time to get out of that "hell-hole." I can't help but wonder if Schaeffer had won, if she would still continue to work or if she would have retired as well. I'm willing to bet she would have kept working.

By the way, I know that former Clerk Mary Eloise Evans hired Anita way back in the early 1970's. So Anita has been in that office for at least 35 years!

    Mr Editor -

Here is something else to think about. With Anita retiring, who will Barb put in as the new "supervisor?" (in name only of course). The logical person would be Sandy as she too is a good and hard worker and has been there for over 20 years (I believe she was hired when Collete Crouch was Clerk). But then we know that Barb doesn't have any commons sense and never makes the "logical" move or decision.

Also Mr Editor, there was another worker, Yvette, who was a good and hard worker in that office that had to quit because the stress was too much. Rumor has it that her doctor told her she had to quit for her own health and well-being.

If the voters knew November 2008 what they could know now from this web site, would Barb have been re-elected? Also, I'm willing to bet that she too will retire before her term is up. But then who would want to take her place and clean up the chaos in that office? It's so bad that that person probably wouldn't even know where to begin.

I too have heard that about Yvette, but since I have not been able to confirm it, I have not written about it.

Your "logical" thinking in making Sandy the new supervisor (in name only, of course) makes complete and total sense. And that is EXACTLY why it will not happen.

Now that I think about it, I think you are right when you say Mary Eloise Evans hired Anita. That would put her at the 35 year mark or longer! Holy crap, what a trooper she is for staying there that long. I would have retired into Barb's second term.

  4. I know someone who interviewed for the position of title supervisor! She was informed that the decision would be made by the Wed before Thanksgiving. Barb told her that during the interview, she "knocked her socks off" which according to the interviewee would not be difficult, the most silly interview she has ever had. NOO normal interview questions were asked. The interviewee asked a questions during the interview-"You have been in this position since 1988, what do you contribute your success to and if selected for the position, what advice could you give to me for success?"...The answer....wait for it..."I DON'T KNOW" Wow!!
The interviewee waited until today and still had not heard anything. She called and gave Barb a fake name (Denise) and asked for the status of the position. You all will be pleased to know that "Denise" was going to be called for an interview during the weekend, and she was just looking at her application!" This made up person was offered a time to interview. No kidding. "Denise" told Barb that 2 weeks ago that she was informed that the position would need to be filled by Thanksgiving, to which Barb replied " I have been so busy I have not had the time to interview anyone yet."
The person that had the interview probably only got the interview because she had repeatedly called Barb to inquire about the posistion.
I am all for promoting within. However, lets get it done and get someone hired for a clerk position right? People out there are losing their homes, going to bed hungry and someone has the authority and the ok (she told the interviewee) to hire for 4 positions. She stated once she hires the the supervisor she would be able to start hiring for the others. Is this right? Is this fair? I hope someone gets the position, quickly, however, good luck with it. My friend states she wants the job (any job) but doesn't know if it would be worth taking. Has anyone else interviewed?
